How do I change the look of my blog? HELP!

HELP!

My name is Michelle and I am computer illiterate.

I know I am not the only one changing the look of their blog. I know that I have read a bazillion different posts about people helping others design their blogs but I can't remember names and darnit, I've had a shitty year so far so HELP ME fellow bloggers.

I have a design and everything and a layout and all sorts of stuff I want, but I don't know how to do it...at all....not even in the slightest. I don't even know what Graphic Design is!

I still have a boom box.
Any tips on who can help? Can I pay them in cookies? Or in books?

Help me.

Anyone?

Bueller?

I don't know how to do that either! My ticket to a new look was pre-designed freebies, which I Googled to find :)

LOL! I am in the same boat as you! LOL
I know if you got on my page and scrool down to StarShadows blog, click on her. Over in her side bar is a button scrolling for Freja designs or something like that. Hers are awesome!
LMK if you find someone!

Go to layout and click on pick new template. then change your template to minima. Then go to my blog and click on the top left corner (Elegias blog design) and pick yourself a beautiful new background. go back to layout and click on add a gadget in the left column. Paste the code from Elegia's in there. save it and you'll have a nice background. If you want to do a header, go to a wallpaper site (google search for wallpapers), find an image and save it to your computer. Then, in layout, click on edit on the header block. add the image from your computer and make sure behind title and description is marked at the bottom and save it. If you give me access to your blog, I would be happy to do all of this for you for free. If you can't figure it out, that is. You would have to let me know what background you chose and what image. You could change the password after. I did my sister's for her. (http://truebookaddictsister.blogspot.com/) Take a look, if you like. her blog background came from hot bliggity blog...you can access that site at the top left of her blog. Just let me know Michelle...I'm happy to help.

Well, if you're looking for a well-made custom design, then I definitely recommend Parajunkee - she did mine and I couldn't be happier with it! She's not expensive (mine was just a bit over $100, which is not a lot for everything she did), but I don't think she accepts cookies or books, hehehe! You could also try contacting Leah (leah-graham@hotmail.com) who did this layout and she might be cheaper, plus she's great at it!
Good luck!

I figured out how to make a button, put up a custom header, and change the color. That's as far as I've got. I can tell you how to do any of those things. Other than that, I'm still trying to figure it out.

Michelle and Bookalicious covered my suggestions :)

PS In an unrelated but sort of related note: despite the 3 column trend (me included) I like two column blogs :)

Oh my goodness, thank you all so much for the advice. Michelle, I may do what you suggest and I will let you know if I need help. Good lord, I hope I don't lose everything.

Thank you everyone! I may have lots more questions.

Wish me luck.

You're welcome Michelle. I'll help you any way I can. Just to let you know, if you put the background code in a gadget rather than changing your template html in edit html, you shouldn't have to worry about losing any of your stuff. I do not like changing my background in the edit html section of the layout...too risky!

My hubby did mine, but only after lots of nagging and bugging for months. Had he not done it, I probably would have asked parajunkee b/c I LOVE her designs!!

I had my header made by Creative Blog Designs, but I also purchased a program that did the rest for me. It's really easy to use and you can do lots of customization. If you want more details, email me at js1997@gmail.com. I can put something together for you quickly so you can see how it looks! ;)
